YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD GYM
A gym where everyone is welcomed, empowered, encouraged, important, and respected.
With Above The Bar, our approach works with clients holistically in the gym, kitchen, and their lives. We show you that you're capable of Strength Beyond Measure.
Is this our way of saying "we can help you get super jacked?" Nah! While can indeed help with that, we measure strength in so many ways beyond just the number on your barbell, your rep sheet, or your scale.
personal + small group training
Whether you work with ATB for personal or small group training, our approach is standard. We teach our clients how to perform the primary movement patterns with integrity and confidence. From there, we progress to resistance training where our clients gain mastery and strength for lifelong function.
Strength Training
Strength training is our meat (or tofu!) and potatoes to maintain or build muscle, reduce bone loss, improve joint and spinal health, and improve quality of life.
Corrective Exercise
We use Corrective Exercise to help clients connect and build awareness to their mind and muscles as well as improve any existing pains or compensation patterns.
Mobility
We incorporate mobility before, during, and after training sessions to reduce the risk of injury, improve technique and range of motion, and promote recovery.
Core360™ Breathing
We love using the Core360 Belt™ for breath and respiratory training to activate deep core muscles, stabilize the spine, and maintain proper, safe alignment during movement.
Recovery
With every client, we teach recovery and self-care practices for nervous system balance and stress reduction on the mind and body to help promote physiological adaptations and improve overall quality of life.
Nutrition
We use a variety of different methods when working on nutrition with our clients including the traditional approach using calories and macronutrients, but also specialize in teaching no-measure methods and Intuitive Eating™.
As part of our nutrition coaching we help clients improve their relationship with food by teaching them how to understand their own hunger and fullness cues, reframe how food makes them feel, and help eliminate food morality ("good" foods vs. "bad" foods).
personal + small group training
Whether you work with ATB for personal or small group training, we apply our Embodied Strength (ES) methodology. With ES, we teach our clients how to perform the primary movement patterns with integrity and confidence. From there, we progress to resistance training where our clients gain mastery and strength for lifelong function.
Further explore all the components of our ES method below:
